Hard Truths about Marble

Hard Truths about Marble

Formed by the crystallization of sediment from years of heat and pressure, marble is a metamorphic stone like granite and soapstone. As with all-natural stones, every slab of marble is completely different, so your kitchen and bath will be unique.

Marble is considered one of the most luxurious, high-end surfaces to use in your home, but it does require special care. It is more prone to scratching, staining, and cracking than other countertop surfaces. But it is also softer than surfaces like granite, making it easier to produce a wide variety of edge profiles and cuts and arches.

Clean with Eez

To prevent haze and achieve a streak-free finish, use Shine-eez to add depth and shine to your countertops along with cleaning your everyday spills and messes. Shine-eez works on marble, Corian, slate and quartz, and it removes grease, grim, stains and watermarks without leaving any residue behind. Your countertops will have a mirror-like finish. Spray a generous amount of Shine-eez on the surface. Let it dwell for a minute and then wipe it away with microfiber cloth.

Seal the Deal

Marble is vulnerable to staining agents (like wine, juice and oil) that seep deep into the rock. When this happens, it's difficult to reverse, so professionally sealing the surface upon installation is essential to help prevent damage. You'll need to repeat the sealing process every six months if you're a frequent cook. You can do this yourself easily with our Clean-eez Stone and Grout Sealer. After cleaning, apply our Seal-eez penetrating sealer. It is perfectly clear so you don’t need to fear staining, and it will soak into the stone, providing a barrier to stains. Apply two coats of sealer for best results, letting the first coat dry for an hour before applying the second. Lightly spread the Seal-eez around making sure to get all the surfaces including the edges and all around the faucet.

Maintain that Marble

Because marble is a softer stone, you’ll want to take some extra steps to keep it from scratching and chipping. Always use a cutting board; do not chop ingredients directly on your countertop. Prolonged exposure to acid, like lemon juice, will etch the marble, causing it to become dull. Wipe up spills promptly and keep that surface sealed. Lastly, House Beautiful magazine warns against leaning on your countertop wearing a belt or a long, metal necklace. They can cause chipping.

Count on Clean-eez for rock-solid advice about how to clean your surfaces.

Thanks for using Clean-eez products. Remember to match the cleaner to the type of surface being cleaned. Check out the how-to videos and blogs on the website and social media for more information.
